Broadcaster and former schoolteacher Phil Steele has developed an enviable reputation as one of South Wales’s leading after dinner speakers in recent years.
His active sporting background as a former top class welsh rugby player with Newport RFC in the 1980’s together with his role as a vivacious radio presenter and sports commentator for BBC Wales radio and television have enabled him to cultivate a wide variety of material.
Phil’s twenty-five years experience as a teacher – mostly spent teaching pupils with learning difficulties in The Rhymney Valley of South Wales has also provided him with a rich repository of humour.
Phil has presented many different programs on Radio Wales, including Phil Steele’s Big Easy, Extra Time, Read It Write It, Speak Easy, Three Feathers At Forty and Steele Away, and as an occasional reporter on rugby for RTE, the national television station of the Republic of Ireland. Phil has also starred in two BBC Radio Wales Series as a resident lyricist (The Back Page and The World Cup Experience) and currently presents the highly acclaimed Sunday morning show Phil Steele’s Big Easy.
Having spoken at many varied venues throughout Britain and abroad – including two speaking tours for the Royal Air Force in Germany and at the prestigious Dubai Welsh Society St David’s Day dinner – Phil Steele is a raconteur with a special appeal for all sporting gatherings who are looking for someone who understands and appreciates their interests – and who can keep them laughing all night!
